After five years, 426 tires, app. 100 workmen, many trucks of building material, laughs and cups of ataja the Rubber House is ready. We’re self-sustainable on solar and need no airconditioning, because of the tires. The compound is beautifully cool because of the shady spaces and has a place to grill ,a lovely Bantaba, a huge veranda and several hammocks!
And don’ t let anybody tell you I never do anything around here… All hands were welcome putting the primer on, inside and outside. Adama decided to put the tire up on the roof, as a “logo”, she says, but it took quite an adventure to get it there. Three people have climbed up and slid down the grass roof several times until Mohammed, Adama’s son, managed to pin it on the top.
The water tower and borehole are ready. This team of specialists drilled up to 35 mtrs down, without meeting any rocky layers. Something they prayed for. Literally, on the job, every day. We now have running, sweet water, coming from this 2000 ltrs. water tank, and pumped up by the sun. And it’s amazing!
The kitchen tiling is ready. It’s not exactly what I asked for, but I still like what they made of it. Nice, neat and clean. The walls now ready for the last layer of paint:
The ceiling is getting ready. This grass came all the way from Senegal, near Dakar. Somewhere near Fajara/ Traffic Light some beautiful handwork in progress:
